We are Cristen and Miguel. We live in Austin, Texas. We like to feed everyone. We also like to spread the word about just how delicious vegan food can be. We do this on Sundays.

Here is how our potluck works:

1. We post the theme, along with any other Sunday dinner updates.
2. You post a comment saying what you plan to bring.
3. Show up Sunday with your own plate, cup, utensils, hang out with nice people and eat good food.
4. Repeat steps 1-3 every week.

If you have doubts about your vegan chef abilities, don't worry. We've provided a list of recipe links, vegan info, and helpful resources to get you started. You can also check out our vegan cooking blog.

If you just happened across this blog and have no idea where to go, send us an e-mail (cristenrene@gmail.com) and we'll give you directions.

This Week--Sunday, November 4

This week's theme is PIES!

pot pies, shepherd's pies, pumpkin pies, pecan pies, pizza pies, non-meat pies, etc. etc. etc.

The only obvious non-vegan ingredient in typical pies is the butter or margarine in the crust. This can be easily substituted with vegan margarine. At least one of these brands can be found at most grocery stores:

  • Earth Balance
  • Smart Balance (only the "organic" kind in green container is vegan - says 100% vegan on the top)
  • Soy Garden
  • Willow Run (comes in sticks and can sometimes even be found at Fiesta Grocery Store, watch out with portions b/c it is very salty)
Here is an easy recipe for vegan pie crust.

This Week--Sunday, October 28th

It's Halloween time and the potluck theme for this week is...[insert favorite scary synonym here].

{creepy, spooky, ghostly, spookish, ghoulish, gruesome, hair-raising, unearthly, disturbing, dreadful, eerie, frightening, frightful, macabre, menacing, nightmarish, ominous, shuddersome, sinister, terrifying, horrid, monstrous, loathsome, odious}

Also, don't forget to dress up!!! If you don't have a costume yet, come with an idea and we'll help you make one at the potluck.

Additional Notes:
*I added a new section to the right, which provides a list of animal products.
**If you have questions about whether or not something is vegan, please ask me.
***Here is a list of vegan candy.

This Week--Sunday, October 21

In case you don't know, Iron Chef is a quirky Japanese cooking show that is dubbed in English and shown on the Food Network. In each episode, famous chefs duel to create the best dish that is centered around a common ingredient. The commentary is very dramatic and amazing. Unfortunately, the featured ingredient is usually something like angler fish, lobster, eel, squid, etc.

This week, we're having our own iron chef (minus the dramatic contests, intense panel judges, fancy kitchen setups, cheesy announcers, and meat). For us, it will just be delicious vegan food around a campfire.

This week....the theme is.....Iron Chef Pumpkin!

Make anything you want, as long as one of the ingredients is pumpkin.
If pumpkin seeds (or nuts of any kind) are used in your creation, please make a mental note of it so we can notify our friendly folks with nut allergies.
